A web browser takes you anywhere on the internet. It retrieves information from other parts of the web and displays it on your desktop or mobile device. The information is transferred using the Hypertext Transfer Protocol, which defines how text, images and video are transmitted on the web. This week you'll learn how browsers and websites work, which is critical whether you are a web developer or a cloud engineer assisting with application deployments.

HTML is the standard markup language for creating Web pages. It describes the structure of a Web page using a series of elements that tell your web browser how to render content. In this week you'll learn the fundamentals of HTML, including the most common HTML elements which are the building blocks of any webpage.

This week is all about Cascading Style Sheets (CSS for short.) You use style sheets to tell the browser how to display text and other content written in HTML. You can use CSS to control the color, font, size, spacing, and a ton of other aspects of HTML elements.

JavaScript is a scripting language that is insanely popular. You can use JavaScript to make web pages interactive. Along with HTML and CSS, there's no doubt that JavaScript is one of the core technologies of the web. JavaScript is supported by all modern browsers. This week, you'll learn fundamental programming concepts in JavaScript, like working with basic data structures, like numbers and strings, along with arrays, objects, functions, loops, if/else statements, and more!

In the final week of this course we'll tie everything together to give you a complete understanding of web development in the cloud. See how a real-world web application is built with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, and how to get it running in a variety of ways in the cloud!
